'Yesterday was different' assembles the dark pages of the history book in which violence and beauty come together. Kasper Bosmans and Marthe Ramm Fortun bring us a classical framework in which they put into play a collection of historical objects and newly produced pieces, all dealing with power and spirituality through everyday rituals. On a recent trip to Rome the artists stole a stone from the Villa Medici bearing the inscription “Proprieté de l’Académie de France”. With this master theft they inversed the process of cultural appropriation. Through love and friendship, the cornerstone of their collaboration, they are forging a path to navigate the present.

'Yesterday was different' relie les pages sombres d'un livre d'histoire où s'accorde la violence et la beauté. Kasper Bosmans et Marthe Ramm Fortun mettent en jeu, dans un décor classique, une collection d’objets historiques et de pièces nouvellement créées évoquant le pouvoir et la spiritualité dans les rituels quotidiens. Lors d'un récent voyage à Rome, les deux artistes ont volé une pierre de la Villa Médicis sur laquelle est inscrit "Propriété de l’Académie de France". Par ce maître-vol, ils inversent le processus d'appropriation culturelle. Grâce à l'amour et à l'amitié, pierre angulaire de leur collaboration, ils pavent un chemin leur permettant de traverser le présent.

'Yesterday was different' verzamelt de donkere pagina’s van het geschiedenisboek waarin geweld en schoonheid samenvloeien. Kasper Bosmans en Marthe Ramm Fortun brengen ons een klassiek kader waarin ze historische objecten en nieuw geproduceerd werk opvoeren, allen verwant aan macht of spiritualiteit via alledaagse rituelen. Tijdens een recente reis naar Rome stalen de kunstenaars een steen van de Villa Medici met daarop gegraveerd “Proprieté de l’Académie de France.” Door middel van deze diefstal konden ze de rollen van culturele toe-eigening omdraaien. Aan de hand van liefde en vriendschap, de hoeksteen van hun samenwerking, banen ze zich een weg naar het heden.

Kasper Bosmans (1990, BE) and Marthe Ramm Fortun (1978, NO) met at the HISK, Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Ghent, and have worked together on several projects. Upcoming collaborations include Du Monde entre mes mains, j’ai vu les destinées organized by Audrey Cottin at Silencio in Paris. They will be artists-in-residence at Frida Hansens hus in Stavanger, Norway followed by a performance at Stavanger Art Museum.

Kasper Bosmans (1990, BE) et Marthe Ramm Fortun (1978, NO) se sont rencontrés à l'Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Gand et ont travaillé sur plusieurs projets en commun. Leur prochaine collaboration, Du Monde entre mes mains, j’ai vu les destinées, sera organisée par Audrey Cottin au Silencio à Paris. Ils seront également artistes en résidence au Frida Hansens hus à Stavanger en Norvège, s'en suivra une performance  au Stavanger Art Museum.

Ze zullen in resi-dentie zijn bij Frida Hansens hus in Stavanger in Noorwegen, om vervolgens een performan-ce te doen in Stavanger Art Museum.

Bosmans will take part in Beaufort beyond borders in close collaboration with Mu.Zee in Oostende, as well as a group show at Marc Foxx in Los Angeles. In the fall of 2015, p////akt in Amsterdam is presenting a solo show of his work.
Fortun presents the performance 'I can see the future in your eyes' for Performatik at Bozar in Brussels. She is responding to Channa Horwitz’ performance instructions on the occasion of the exhibition COUNTING IN EIGHT, MOVING BY COLOR at Kunst-Werke Institute of Contemporary Art in Berlin.
