Happy ever after sets the decoration for an imaginary, natural landscape. For this exhibition Brussels-based artist Birde Vanheerswynghels shows a large-scale, charcoal drawing. Vanheerswynghels finds inspiration in parks, greenhouses and museums of natural history - designed for the audience to understand and enjoy the variety and beauty of nature. An alphabet or a logical way of understanding nature. In the future more than 50 percent of the human population will live in cities, where nature is controlled by man and provides leisure-time for the citizens. What about a walk with your dog? A friendly football match? Or getting that tan on a sunny Sunday afternoon? Leaving us more alienated from nature than ever - can you hear the cars humming on the background? The drawings of Birde Vanheerswhyngels are not a plea for another way of living, they do not defend nor offend no-one or nothing, but capture nature’s beauty by the imaginary. These drawings are not a representation of an existing scene. Vanheerswhyngels starts from one single form that she keeps repeating; she draws from her memory and gestures are more important than composition. Her approach is intuitive. Romance may be dead, romanticism is not. Sometimes I’m happy.

Happy ever after définit le décor d’un paysage imaginaire et naturel. Pour cette exposition, l'artiste bruxelloise Birde Vanheerswynghels présente un dessin à grande échelle au charbon de bois. Vanheerswynghels trouve son inspiration dans les parcs, les serres et les musées d'histoire naturelle qui sont conçus pour apprendre et profiter de la variété et de la beauté de la nature. Un alphabet ou une manière logique de comprendre la nature. À l'avenir plus de 50 pourcent de la population humaine vivra dans des villes, où la nature est contrôlée par les humains et sert les citoyens dans leur temps de loisir. Qu'en est-il d’une promenade avec votre chien? Un match amical de football? Ou obtenir ce bronzage sur un après-midi ensoleillé dimanche? Laissant la nature plus aliénée que jamais… Pouvez-vous entendre le bourdonnement des voitures dans le fond? Les dessins de Birde Vanheerswhyngels ne sont pas un plaidoyer pour un autre mode de vie, ils ne défendent ni n’offensent personne ou rien, mais capturent la beauté de la nature par l'imaginaire. Ces dessins ne sont pas une représentation d'une scène existante. Vanheerswhyngels part d'une forme unique qu’elle tire de sa mémoire et qu'elle continue de répéter. Ses gestes sont plus importants que la composition. Sa démarche est intuitive. Si la romance est peut-être morte, le romantisme ne l’est pas. Parfois c’est heureux.

Happy Ever After is het decor van een denkbeeldig, natuurlijk landschap. In deze tentoonstelling toont Brusselse kunstenares Birde Vanheerswynghels een grootschalige houtskooltekening. Vanheerswynghels vindt inspiratie in parken, serres en natuurmusea - ontworpen voor het publiek om de verscheidenheid en schoonheid van de natuur te begrijpen en ervan te genieten. Een alfabet of een logische manier om de natuur te bevatten. In de toekomst woont meer dan 50 procent van de wereldbevolking in steden, waar de natuur beheerst wordt door de mens en de vrije tijd van de burgers dient. Een wandeling met de hond? Een vriendschappelijke voetbalwedstrijd? Of lekker zonnen op een zonnige zondagnamiddag? Steeds meer raken we vervreemd van de natuur - hoor je de auto's neuriën op de achtergrond? De tekeningen van Birde Vanheerswhyngels zijn geen pleidooi voor een andere manier van leven, ze verdedigen noch beledigen niets of niemand, maar leggen de schoonheid van de natuur vast door middel van de verbeelding. Deze tekeningen zijn geen representatie van een bestaande scene. Vanheerswhyngels begint vanaf één enkele vorm die ze blijft herhalen, ze put uit haar herinneringen en bewegingen zijn belangrijker dan compositie. Haar aanpak is intuïtief. Als romantiek dood is, is de Romantiek dat niet. Soms ben ik gelukkig.
